Episode 17 - Food! Glorious Food!
Find out where we've gotten some of the absolute best noms! With a few digressions along the way, of course.
So this week's cocktail should therefore be food-based, right? How about booze-soaked cherries? We're drinking Gillian's own creation, a Cherry Crush!
Cherry Crush
OOPS! I did it again! Yeah, I invented this. Well, for certain values of invented. Inspired by a few other recipes, I admit, I’m kind of getting into this ‘craft libation’ thing. For this drink, I soaked some fresh pitted black cherries in bourbon overnight, which infuses the booze and ‘macerates’ the cherries. Then added that to some actual cherry liquor. Ginja d’Obidos is a Portuguese liqueur and apparently its very well known there. If it isn’t already, it should be a national treasure, because this is SERIOUSLY good. Mixed up well it turned into quite a tasty beverage, indeed.
Ingredients-
2 oz Brown Sugar Bourbon (infused with cherry)
1 oz Ginja d’Obidos
1/2 lemon juice
1/2 oz simple syrup
Club Soda
Instructions-
Crush cherries into the bottom of a rocks glass. Add cocktail ice. Add all but cherries and club soda to shaker with ice. Shake vigorously. Strain into rocks glass with cocktail ice. Add club soda and stir.
For extra credit, soak the cherries in bourbon overnight first. Garnish with one of those bourbon soaked cherries, add a Luxardo cherry and enjoy!
